There Was a Young Man

In imitation of the folk song “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly”

There was a young man who swallowed a lie;
I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who ignored the Truth.
How uncouth, to ask “What is truth!”
He ignored the Truth and believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who mocked the Bible.
With scorn and libel he mocked the Bible.
He mocked the Bible and ignored the Truth;
He ignored the Truth and believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who lived for the devil;
His life was wicked and his works were evil.
He lived for the devil and mocked the Bible;
He mocked the Bible and ignored the Truth;
He ignored the Truth and believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who lived without God;
From young until old, he lived without God.
He lived without God and lived for the devil;
He lived for the devil and mocked the Bible;
He mocked the Bible and ignored the Truth;
He ignored the Truth and believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was a young man who would not repent;
He refused to relent! He would not repent.
He refused to repent and lived without God;
He lived without God and lived for the devil;
He lived for the devil and mocked the Bible;
He mocked the Bible and ignored the Truth;
He ignored the Truth and believed in Science;
It wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled his self-reliance.
He believed in Science and swallowed the lie,
But I don’t know why he swallowed the lie, perhaps he’ll die.

There was an old man who died without remorse;
He’s in hell of course!
