When the Harvest Comes

26  And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 27  And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. 28  For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29  But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

Mark 4:26-29

Happy Thanksgiving! Over the last few weeks we have experienced several things for which to be especially thankful. Recently we experienced a gospel harvest of fruit which has been long ripening. One dear lady and her children first began attending services more than a year and a half ago. After listening and learning and building friendships with many people in our congregation she has finally come to the point of public decision and confession. Marla and I had the privilege of clearly explaining the gospel to her and hearing her pray to receive the Lord. Her teenage daughter made a decision at youth camp a year ago, but has never made it public. Now we expect shortly to see both of them receive baptism and join the church.

In the lives of many other people, we see the fruit ripening but not yet ready to harvest. At least three ladies in our congregation have unsaved husbands who attend services often and are seriously considering the claims of the gospel. In each case, the changed life of their spouse has been the significant factor in creating a desire on their part to understand the message of Christ. Please pray for these unsaved family members to be won. Sometimes we sow; sometimes we reap; but God gives the increase!
